Information about the Amishlandinfo area of Pennsylvania
Welcome to amishlandinfo.com
One might ask:
"What is the amishlandinfo.com area of Pennsylvania?"
It is the popular area noted for it's Amish population
and thier family faith and community oriented way of
life. This area known as Pennsylvania Dutch country ranges
from Chadsford to Hershey and from York to Adamstown
with Lancaster County as its hub.
Intercourse, Pennsylvania, formerly known as Cross Keys
from a noted old tavern sign, was founded in 1754. Much
speculation exists concerning the origin of the name of this
little country village. There are several explanations, but
none can really be substantiated. The first centers around
an old race track which existed just east of the town. As
one leaves town, traveling eastward on the old Philadelphia Pike,
there is a long strait stretch of road where the track was located.
This was the entrance to the race course, and was known as
"Entercourse." It is believed that entercourse gradually evolved
into "Intercourse," which became the name of the village in 1814.
Another theory concerns two famous roads which crossed here.
The Old Kings Highway from Philadelphia to Pittsburg (now known as
the Old Philadelphia Pike) ran east and west through the center of
town. The road from Wilmington to Erie intersected in the middle.
The joining, or intercourse, of these two roads is claimed by some
to be the basis for naming the town Intercourse.
The Hospitality industry of Lancaster county has
planned and worked hard to make our guest's stay with
us as pleasant and as full as they might wish. There are
at least six days of things to see and do in the county.
That is not counting side day trips to such places as
Longwood Gardens, Gettysburg, Hershey, and Philadelphia
that visitors take while using Lancaster County as their
home base for lodging, eating, and fun. Lancaster County
is the Hub of the area! Our visitors enjoy staying in centrally
located Lancaster County, not packing and repacking to make side
trips.
We hope this will help you plan your stay with us and will
help you plan your return trips. We look forward to hearing
any comments you have about your trip.
